Local weather campaigners react to NZIA exits

Local weather campaigners have been fast to react to Zurich’s exit from the insurance coverage alliance.

Jennifer Buchli, a local weather campaigner from Zurich-based social justice collective Campax, stated that “in contrast to Munich Re and different friends, Zurich continues to underwrite new oil and fuel initiatives.”

“It's not credible for Zurich to interact their clients on the web zero transition so long as the insurer doesn’t finish their assist for the growth of oil and fuel extraction themselves.”

Peter Bosshard, coordinator of the Insure Our Future marketing campaign, stated: “The NZIA has allowed itself to be immobilised by antitrust considerations from the beginning. With Munich Re and now Zurich leaving the alliance, insurers have a fair larger direct duty to align their companies with a reputable 1.5C pathway,” he stated.
